Leadville’s Historic Downtown Receives a Stunning New Mural by Artist Michael Carson

The Timberline Motel, a newly renovated gem in Leadville, Colorado, proudly announces the completion of a breathtaking mural by acclaimed artist Michael Carson. This final touch on the motel’s renovation celebrates both Leadville’s storied past and its vibrant present.

A Nod to Leadville’s Rich Heritage

The mural, now gracing the south side of The Timberline, depicts a silver miner, symbolizing Leadville’s rich mining history and its beautiful downtown, which stands as a testament to the hard-working spirit of its residents. This striking image welcomes visitors entering from the south, capturing the essence of Leadville’s heritage and natural splendor.

“The decision on the mural’s subject was a challenging one,” said Nell Lindquist of The Timberline. “We wanted something that embodies the unique spirit of Leadville. Our downtown is a National Landmark, and our city continues to evolve thanks to the hard work of its people. The miner in the mural reflects both our historical roots and the vibrant, hardworking community that defines us.”

Artistic Vision 

Michael Carson (Instagram), known for his work in private and corporate collections across the U.S., completed the mural on August 23, 2024. Carson, whose recent work includes a show at Abend Gallery in Denver and a Grammy-nominated album cover, infused the mural with his signature style, emphasizing the interplay of color and light. The miner in the mural is portrayed soaking in the breathtaking views of the Sawatch Range, home to 15 Fourteeners, including Mount Elbert and Mount Massive.

The renovation has led to the creation of 11 modern rooms, four family-friendly suites, and a luxurious 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom loft.
